Collaborative leadership skills are in high demand at a time when company loyalty is at a low. The contrast between leadership skills that are sought and how company cultures actually operate is striking. Companies are often their own worst enemies when it comes to promoting the leadership they claim to desire. When collaboration does not lead to promotion, it is no wonder that collaborators cannot be found.

According to a study by the HR research and consultancy firm Bersin & Associates, as the economy is showing signs of life, businesses are focusing less on cutting back and more on “tackling globalization challenges, rebuilding sales growth, fostering innovation and encouraging skills development”. All of this means that HR departments are trying to find new ways to share knowledge and build up collaborative leadership skills.
