Social Commitments in a Depersonalized World

The nature of interaction lies in many ways at the heart of what we as leaders do.  In a book to be published next week by Sage, Social Commitments in a Depersonalized World by Edward J. Lawler, Shane R. Thye, and Jeongkoo Yoon, the critical issue of social interaction is examined, and tries to come to grips with the heart of sociological theory—that is, how do we establish bonds among people? How do we go beyond the transactional relationships to ones that are imbued with emotion and meaning?  This book represents a long line of social-psychological research and should have a major impact on how we think about these issues.

This video shows one of the book’s authors, Ed Lawler, discussing his new book at the IWS Cornell Colloquium Series in the Cornell Club on My 14th, 2009.
